Most customers are in and out quickly. Here's how to make your trip worth it.
Sort what you can
Separate copper from brass, aluminum from steel, and clean from dirty. Mixed piles get graded at the lowest value in the load.
Bring it to Finley Blvd
Drive in during yard hours with a valid government-issued photo ID. Alabama law requires it for every scrap sale.
Weigh it and get paid
We weigh and grade your material and pay you for it. Questions about a grade? Ask. We'll walk you through it.
Built for the trades and the plant floor
Rather Recycling is a full-service metal recycler working with commercial, industrial and manufacturing accounts, plus anyone with a load to sell.
Contractors
HVAC, electrical, plumbing and demo crews. Turn jobsite copper, wire, motors and steel into money instead of landfill.
Businesses & manufacturers
Steady scrap from production or maintenance? Container service keeps it moving off your floor.
Individuals
Garage cleanouts, cans, rims, old batteries and whatever has been sitting in the shed. Bring it in and we'll grade it with you.
Scrap prices move daily.
Call before you load up and we'll give you today's number for your material. Tell us what it is and roughly how much you have.

Scrap metal questions
How do I find out today's scrap metal prices?
Scrap prices follow the commodity markets and move often, so the best way to get an accurate number is to call us at 205-224-4044 and tell us what you have. The grade and condition of your material make a big difference in what it's worth.
What do I need to bring to sell scrap metal?
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. Alabama law requires scrap metal buyers to record the seller's identification on each transaction, so we can't buy material without it.
Do I need to separate my metals?
You don't have to, but you'll get paid more if you do. Mixed loads are usually graded at the value of the lowest material in the pile. Keep copper, brass, aluminum and steel apart and you'll get the full value for each.
Should I strip insulated copper wire before I bring it in?
It depends on the wire. Heavy single-conductor wire like THHN has a lot of copper and can be worth stripping if you have the time. Thin or multi-conductor wire usually isn't worth the labor. Either way, we buy insulated wire as-is.
