Sell insulated copper wire in Birmingham, AL

THHN, Romex, insulated cable and computer wire. Stripped or unstripped, we buy it.

Insulated wire is priced by recovery, meaning how much of its weight is actually copper. Heavier, single-conductor wire recovers more copper and pays more per pound.

THHN Wire scrap at Rather Recycling in Birmingham, AL
High recovery

THHN Wire

Single-conductor building wire with thin nylon-coated insulation. One of the best-paying insulated wire grades because it's mostly copper.

Insulated Copper Cable scrap at Rather Recycling in Birmingham, AL
Insulated

Insulated Copper Cable

Heavier insulated and jacketed copper cable, including tin-coated copper conductor. Priced on copper content.

Building wire

Romex® Wire

Sheathed residential wiring with multiple conductors. Common from remodels and electrical tear-outs.

Low / specialty

Computer Wire & Silver Plated Copper

Data, communication and computer cable, plus silver-plated copper wire. Lower copper content but still worth bringing in.

Strip it or not?

Heavy THHN is often worth stripping into bare bright if you have time. Thin, multi-conductor wire like extension cords and computer cable usually isn't worth the labor. Either way, we buy it as-is, so don't let unstripped wire sit in the shop.

Keep wire sorted

Keep heavy wire, Romex and thin wire in separate bins. Mixed wire gets priced at the lower recovery, so a little sorting puts more money in your pocket.

Common questions

Should I strip insulated copper wire before I bring it in?

It depends on the wire. Heavy single-conductor wire like THHN has a lot of copper and can be worth stripping if you have the time. Thin or multi-conductor wire usually isn't worth the labor. Either way, we buy insulated wire as-is.

Do I need to separate my metals?

You don't have to, but you'll get paid more if you do. Mixed loads are usually graded at the value of the lowest material in the pile. Keep copper, brass, aluminum and steel apart and you'll get the full value for each.

Scrap prices move daily.

Call before you load up and we'll give you today's number for your material. Tell us what it is and roughly how much you have.
